Men in Monochrome – with Josh M

I can say with absolute certainty that being furloughed from my day job is weird. I’m desperate to keep myself busy so I’m spending almost all of my time doing one of three things; cooking, cleaning, or photography. It’s nice to be able to fulfill my artistic side so much and I’m really glad that this is something I have to keep my focus! I definitely am much more clear in how I’m approaching each shoot. I’m not having to “switch gears” in my brain, per se. I’m definitely noticing my creativity expanding, and it’s fun to go with that flow.

Four years ago, just after moving to Seattle, Chris and I started talking to Josh on Scruff, one of the myriad of gay social apps. We’ve always connected well with him when chatting, but our schedules were terrible to match up. He was at work when we were home, and vice versa. Well, Covid changed that! Josh worked in the restaurant industry, so now has ample free time, as do I having been furloughed. When we connected this time, we were both so excited that we were finally going to be able to both meet and do a shoot together!

Josh has this amazing and beautiful energy about him. He’s at once rugged and soft. He speaks softly in a way that draws you in to listen more attentively. He was 100% in the moment with both Chris and I (Chris was home today) from the moment he walked in the door. To say he’s gorgeous is an understatement, as you’ll see. We spent about an hour talking, and I really just vibed with his spirit, and it was very inspiring for the images we decided to go for together.

What felt right for him was an idea of casual nudity at home, and we shot a lot of that. Like Chris and I, Josh is naked at home a lot and does most things at home that way. So that’s what I tried to capture; relaxed, casual nudity. Of course, I also had to throw in some images of my ideas about shaping light and body art, so we did some of that too.

As I often hope to in my shoots, I feel like we made a friend today. I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw another shoot with Josh come down later as it was such a lovely experience and I enjoyed him a lot.

As always, I hope you enjoy the images.

With Love,

William
